Discuss practices for strengthening agriculture through branding, explore pathways to invigorate agriculture via trade, and deliberate solutions for global food security
The Parallel Session of the 9th Hongqiao International Economic Forum themed Strengthening Agriculture through Branding, Invigorating Agriculture via Trade — Agricultural Resilience and Global Food Security will be held in Hall 4.2 of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) on the afternoon of 5 November 2026. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Commerce, the session is organized by the Agricultural Trade Promotion Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
To pursue the coordinated development of technology-driven, green, quality-focused and brand-based agriculture and build agriculture into a modern, large-scale industry is a key initiative of China’s drive to develop an agricultural powerhouse. At present, profound changes unseen in a century are accelerating across the globe. Geopolitical conflicts, extreme weather, trade protectionism and other overlapping risks pose severe challenges to global agricultural development and food security. How to deepen international cooperation and build more resilient agricultural production and supply chains has become a shared priority for all stakeholders.
Against this backdrop, the session will bring together senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, agricultural authorities of relevant countries, agriculture-related international organizations, leading universities and research institutes, multinational corporations and industry champions, financial institutions, chambers of commerce and industry associations, as well as representatives of local agricultural and rural authorities. Participants will engage in in-depth exchanges, share cutting-edge insights, and build a high-level dialogue platform for advancing branding-driven agriculture and trade-enabled agricultural growth.
The agenda features opening remarks, two thematic discussions and closing summary:
Thematic Discussion I: Strengthening Agriculture through Branding — Practical Experience in Forging Endogenous Impetus for Industrial Development
Thematic Discussion II: Invigorating Agriculture via Trade — Exploration of Pathways to Galvanize External Engines for Industrial Development
Panelists will focus on hot topics including international pathways and best practices for branded agricultural development, how branding empowers industrial upgrading and international trade, the profound impacts of the current international landscape on global agricultural trade patterns, and ways to tackle trade barriers and foster a more open agricultural trading system through policy, model and business innovation. They will conduct in-depth discussions, share experience and contribute ideas to boost international agricultural cooperation and the integration of production and supply chains, injecting fresh momentum into high-quality agricultural development and global food security.
