Zhitong Finance APP learned that recently, an official from the Department of Electronic Commerce of the Ministry of Commerce answered reporters' questions regarding the posts on overseas social platforms claiming that international renowned brands can be purchased at low prices from so-called Chinese "OEM factories".

Question: Recently, some people posted videos on US social platforms claiming that they can directly purchase international renowned brand products at low prices from so-called Chinese "OEM factories". Many American consumers left comments saying they hope to buy such products, while others questioned that these acts may involve infringement and counterfeiting. What is your comment on this?

Answer: We have noted the relevant reports. Recently, the US has arbitrarily imposed unilateral tariffs on China, yet a large number of American consumers still rush to e-commerce platforms to snap up "Made in China" products. This fully demonstrates that Chinese products are of high quality and favorable price. "Made in China" has earned a global reputation and is popular among consumers around the world. Erecting a "wall" with tariffs cannot change the laws of the market.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to intellectual property protection, and the progress and achievements made in this regard have been recognized by all parties. In recent years, China's market supervision authorities have continuously strengthened administrative law enforcement, investigated and handled cases of trademark infringement and patent counterfeiting in accordance with the law, and carried out special law enforcement campaigns such as safeguarding intellectual property rights and combating online unfair competition, so as to better protect the legitimate rights and interests of right holders and consumers. At the same time, commerce authorities at all levels have also taken active actions, implemented the quality e-commerce cultivation initiative, promoted major e-commerce platforms to fulfill their primary responsibilities, and carried out full-process control covering qualification access, AI-plus-human review, and strengthened intellectual property protection.

Regarding the claim that international renowned brands can be purchased at low prices from so-called "OEM factories", based on the information obtained from relevant industry associations and chambers of commerce, China's brand-authorized processing enterprises attach great importance to intellectual property protection. They will conduct production and delivery in accordance with the requirements of purchase contracts and safeguard the image of international brands. We will promptly transfer clues of illegal and irregular acts such as false marketing, infringement and counterfeiting in the name of so-called "OEM factories" to administrative law enforcement departments for investigation and handling in accordance with the law.
