Chinese Ministry of Commerce Spokesperson He Yadong revealed at a regular press conference on the 5th that China will study and introduce special policies to further improve the facilitation of import trade, optimize the source and regional structure of imported goods, and promote positive interaction between imports, investment and consumption. According to He Yadong, China’s import volume reached 18.5 trillion yuan in 2025, making China the world’s second‑largest importer for 17 consecutive years. Imports from more than 130 countries and regions achieved growth, and China has become a major export destination for nearly 80 countries. The first event of the 2026 **“Shared Big Market · Export to China”** series was held in Beijing on the 4th. He Yadong noted that against the backdrop of setbacks to economic globalization and the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, launching the **“Export to China”** series of events is a proactive move by China to expand independent opening‑up and promote global opening‑up and cooperation. “In 2026, we will organize more than 100 import promotion events in various forms,” He Yadong said. The Ministry of Commerce will strengthen the connection between **“Export to China”** and **“Shop in China”**, build more consumption promotion scenarios for imported goods, and enable high‑quality imported products and services to “enter smoothly” and “sell well”. He Yadong added that going forward, China will accelerate the implementation of the zero‑tariff measure covering 100% of tariff lines for 53 African countries having diplomatic relations with China through negotiating and signing common development partnership agreements. It will promote the negotiation, signing or upgrading of free trade agreements and expand market access in an orderly manner. At the same time, China will continue to successfully host the China International Import Expo, build up the **“Export to China”** brand, and expand imports with greater intensity and more concrete measures.
